Nannup

The small village of Nannup was very pretty but also very cold at night. So, cold there was ice as well as frost! As you can see from the pictures we found some amazing fungus.

Shaggy having a paddle!
There were quite a few butterflies around, it was hard to spot the difference between them and the Autumn leaves.

Albany

Down the coast from Esperance we get to Albany. It was a great town, quite arty. As you can see quite beautiful when the sun is shining. These first photos were taken opposite a distillery. We tried the most expensive whiskey I have ever drunk $800 a bottle I think it was.

The is from the Anzac memorial, it was quite moving and the view from the top was stunning.

Esperance

Everybody had told us we should go to Esperance. We decided to stay at the Pink Lake Caravan Park, which is near the Pink Lake. Here is the sunset at Pink Lake! I know it isn't pink. It was apparently. The official story is something to do with global warming, however the locals believe it it more to do with the council increasing the amount of pink salt companies were allowed to harvest.
The coast line is extremely beautiful, with lots of islands.

This is me at a very inspiring glass gallery. All the outdoor furniture was made with pallets.
We got to drive on the beach!

Norseman

Norseman has suffered from a scale down of mining in the area.  There is very little there and the place is looking very tired. The areas outside Norseman were really pretty and we went hunt for Agates. Much to our amazement we found some! Unfortunately we didn't have very good weather, we caught up with the storm we saw on the Nullarbor.

These are all salt lakes, the white one at the bottom looked just like snow, especially against the grey sky.

The Nullarbor

South Australia, well certainly round the coast is very flat with very few trees. What trees are there, are very short and more like shrubs. To me it was a very boring landscape.  The Nullarbor is the only way to get into Western Australia if you are going round the coast. It is very long and there is very little to see, so you are very relieved when you get to the other side! We drove it over two days, camping just before the boarder. We did this because we wanted to eat up some of our vegetables as you can't take them into Western Australia.
If you remember the large moth we found at Cummins. Well, we encountered quite a few more when we camped for the night. We have head torches and when I went out in the middle of the night I was dived bombed by loads of them. If somebody had videoed it, it would have been quite funny! When we stopped at the quarantine just a couple of km from where we camped the whole place was covered with dead ones.
We followed a great storm on the Nullarbor and the different greens of the shrubs as we neared the end were lovely. Of course the Head of Bight was amazing, we didn't see any whales!

The Nullarbor has the longest straight bit of road in Australia, it is 145.6 kilometres (90.5 miles). Yes, very exciting driving! We were quite pleased when we finally hit a corner!

Cactus Beach

The famous surfer beach. We had to take a look. It was the worst road corrugations it didn't half rattle the bones! We didn't stay here we just went to look! As you can see it wasn't a very nice day with no surfers as it was too rough.

Fowlers Bay

Simon and I had a great time at Fowlers Bay.  It was a funny little place with a hotch potch of houses and very little else. The campsite was good though and very friendly.
The dogs went absolutely mad on the dunes running up and down them. They really over did it on the first day, on the second day they took it a bit easier.  The dunes were huge and covered several kms, walking through them was amazing. My hat blew off and down one very large steep dune. Scoobie went to rescue it for me but just stood by it and looked at it as if to say now what? So, I had to go and get it!

 Real white horses!
